The Investigations Division is comprised of experienced law enforcement investigators, forensic experts, state certified trainers, research analysts, law-enforcement teletype operators and support personnel.

Investigators provide assistance to area law enforcement agencies that are conducting criminal investigations and when necessary conduct investigations initiated or requested by the District Attorney. These investigators have significant experience in the investigation of various types of fraud, auto theft, robbery and homicide.

In support of district court trials and hearings, investigators and support personnel locate witnesses and serve subpoenas for pending cases. These cases often involve frightened or uncooperative witnesses.

Members of this division are active participants in the team. (COMIT), the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force (HIDTA) and the Metro Area Fraud Investigators Association (MAFIA).

The Investigations Division supports a Questioned Document Laboratory. The questioned document laboratory is one of two in the State of Oklahoma that is funded solely by a law enforcement agency. The laboratory has been nationally accredited by the American Society of Crime Lab Directors, Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB). As of June 2005 there were only two other law enforcement agencies who have received this accreditation. The Questioned Document Examiner, often referred to as a “handwriting expert” underwent intense training and three years of internship and study to become individually certified. The examiner conducts examinations for numerous state, local and federal law enforcement agencies.

Division personnel install and maintain courtroom electronic equipment used by prosecutors and defense counsel to present audio, video and still photographs to juries. These personnel also duplicate and redact audio and video tapes, CDs and DVDs for the district courts.

The Investigations Division employs a polygraph examiner. The examiner is the Governor’s appointee to the Board of Polygraph Examiners. He is vice-chairman and former chairman of the board.
